UTS Library will be hosting a series of FREE author talks throughout the month of May as part of the continuing National Year of Reading celebrations. 

The final talk in this series is being presented by Kirsten Tranter author of A Common Loss, published in 2012. Kirsten will be reading an excerpt out of her book and talking about the road to becoming an author and producing captivating and enthralling literature.

A Common Loss is the highly anticipated second novel from Australian writer, Kirsten Tranter, whose bestselling debut novel, The Legacy, was published to international critical acclaim. It was long-listed for the Miles Franklin Prize and short-listed for the Australian Literary Medal.

About the book:

They were originally five. Elliot. Brian. Tallis. Cameron. And charismatic Dylan: the mediator, the leader and the man each one turned to in a time of crisis. Five close friends, bonded in college, still coming together for their annual trip to Las Vegas. This year they are four. Four friends, sharing a common loss: Dylan's tragic death. About the author:

Kirsten Tranter grew up in Sydney, lived in New York for eight years and holds a PhD in English Renaissance literature from Rutgers University. Her debut novel, The Legacy (4th Estate, 2010), was long-listed for the Miles Franklin Award and for the Australian Literary Medal. She currently lives in Sydney with her husband and son.

A Common Loss and The Legacy will be available for sale at the talk and Kirsten will be signing copies of her books.
